A very Happy Thanksgiving to each and every one of you! Our teams are taking a small break today and tomorrow to spend time with friends and family (and generous helpings of turkey, dressing, and more). Of course, Christmas and the busy shopping season lurks right around the corner as well - so much going on all at once! It goes without saying that we are beyond thankful for the support you all show us each and every day. Even on the most difficult of days, it is that support that makes it all worthwhile. You make all of this possible, and we never forget that. We also know it has been overlong with the Terraria 1.4.5 dev cycle, but we are getting closer and closer each and every day. Thank you for your patience there. Let's settle in and see what this month's State of the Game feast has in store... <img src="https://i.imgur.com/Y3CIX2z.png" /><div class="bb_h1">PC - RE-LOGIC</div><div class="bb_h2">TERRARIA 1.4.5 - RACING THE CLOCK TOWARDS SUBMISSIONS</div> Greetings, Terrarians! Another month has flown by and the team has made some great strides towards the completion of Terraria 1.4.5. Localization work (at least in regards to the PC side of things) has pretty much been completed at this point - outside of a few stragglers that we may just take care of within a post-release hotfix. Outside of that, the team has been hard at work testing and fixing bugs as well as coordinating with all of our various global partners to try and get everyone as far advanced as possible in parallel. We have not yet reached the point of making first party submissions, but we should hopefully be there soon. We will try to let everyone know once those submissions are in, at which point things will be mostly out of our control. We do have guesstimates about how long that will take based on past rounds, but we have seen it go way faster and way slower before so you never know. <div class="bb_h3">Timing-wise, the launch window remains the same - though January is more likely at this point unless we get lucky with faster-than-expected submissions. </div> We will try our very best to continue to narrow that window down as we know more. We should know a LOT more once we get the first round of submissions out of the way. The reality is that first party staff go home for the holidays eventually - at which point we are stuck waiting on them to return. We are racing that clock to at least get our first round of submissions in and done this year. If we get first-pass approval, December remains possible. If not... then it's probably January. We are trying to be as transparent with the process as we can here - we know it has been a long time coming, so we owe you that much. Now, we wouldn't want to leave you empty-handed spoiler-wise either, so we have what we think is a really cool one for this month - a revamped crafting UI! This new take on the crafting interface blends what has worked so well in regards to research and duplication on Journey Mode and brought it over into the mainstream crafting process. These changes also apply to the Guide recipe interface. This means you will be able to sort through the sometimes-daunting pile of possible crafting recipes for any given material via both categorical tabs and even a text-based search box. This becomes all the more important with the changes to craft from nearby chests that will arrive with Terraria 1.4.5... Taking all of this together, we hope this helps everyone to be able to more quickly find and craft that one perfect item that they want more quickly! (This is still undergoing some tweaks as we find and fix bugs/issues in the testing process so its final form may differ) <img src="https://i.imgur.com/eSzG1tH.gif" /> The next generation Terraria Crafting is here! On December 1st the monthly update release of tModLoader will go live. As always we are grateful for the massive amount of community participation in developing and testing new features each month. This month's release contains various bug fixes and smaller features. We've fixed several regressions related to the liquid rendering fixes from last month and fixed some UI inconsistencies and errors. For modders, this month's release includes support for custom pressure plates along with new hooks for tile interactions, as well as new hooks for custom armor set shadow effects and transforming the full player rendering. As usual, we'd like to encourage modders to test out new tModLoader features on the preview branch if they are relevant to your mod. Major features in preview are listed on our Discord. Modders and users should also keep an eye out for our monthly Steam announcement on the 1st where a complete listing of bug fixes and API changes for this month's release will be listed. In this month’s Terraria: The Board Game designer diary, we’ve got information about our latest MPC (Manufacturer Production Copy), the project timeline, foiled boss cards and packaging. Grab your pickaxes and let’s dig in! --- MPC (MANUFACTURER PRODUCTION COPY) + TIMELINE This part of the process is always exciting and terrifying in equal measure. We received MPCs (Manufacturer Production Copies) from Gameland earlier this month, and while the vast majority of the components were spot-on, we identified a few areas that need to be addressed and ultimately, we weren’t able to approve the MPCs. Everything we flagged is being addressed, but this will take time and as a result shipping and fulfilment will unfortunately need to be pushed back. This is disappointing, but we will always choose quality over speed; we're committed to creating the best product possible and we’re not going to settle for sending you anything other than that. Gameland estimated that rectifying these issues and getting another MPC to us would take 3-4 weeks. With the holidays looming and congested shipping routes at this time of year, at this stage it’s hard to say exactly when games will arrive in each region. There’s a chance that some backers in Asia might receive their copies this year (as these will be shipped ‘overland’, rather than via sea freight) but it’s looking likely that most backers will receive their pledges in early 2026. Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll have a better idea of timescale and we’ll continue to keep you as up to date as we possibly can; in the meantime we really, really appreciate your patience. --- IT'S NOT ALL DOOM AND GLOOM! When you’re looking for problems, it’s really easy to overlook all of the things that are wonderful, so here’s a rundown of what excited us about the MPCs! PUNCHBOARD DELAMINATION IS FIXED In the last update, we discussed the punchboard issues we had come across in the copy provided to us at Essen. We're very happy to report that there was no evidence of peeling in the copies that we received yesterday, so we won’t be needing to reprint 150,000 punchboards. Thank goodness! FOILED BOSS CARDS We’re absolutely thrilled with how the foiled boss cards turned out. Opening the boss card deck feels like opening the best trading card pack ever; every card is a shiny! They have a very nostalgic ‘Team Rocket Pokémon card’ vibe, and they look fantastic stored inside the Boss Boxes. <div class="sharedFilePreviewYouTubeVideo sizeFull"><img class="sharedFilePreviewYouTubeVideo sizeFull" src="https://steamcommunity.com/public/shared/images/responsive/youtube_16x9_placeholder.gif" /></div> PACKAGING This one’s a bit nerdy, but super important for making sure that your games get to you in pristine condition. At long last, today is the day: Terraria 1.4.5 is here! What better way to kick off the year of Terraria's 15th Anniversary, right? We know the wait has been a long one, but we hope that everyone enjoys what this latest update has in store. As always, we will be posting any hotfixes or important information regarding Terraria 1.4.5 here in this launch post thread, so you will want to keep an eye on this one for sure. Focusing on the goal of a global, synchronized launch across all platforms and regions, we will be rolling out today on PC, Console, and Mobile everywhere except for the bespoke China Mobile version. A combination of factors led to this. The Chinese mobile edition offers online features based on official servers, which will require additional server migration work upon receiving the complete 1.4.5 content code, followed by a formal review process for the new materials. The completion and release of version 1.4.5 is also very close to the Chinese New Year, and that after the work of porting and localization review, there remains an essential phase of internal testing, which we consider crucial to ensuring a polished gameplay experience. Re-Logic, 505 Games, and XD believe that taking the time to ensure quality is more meaningful than rushing the update before it is ready. Therefore, after discussions with our partner team, it has been jointly determined that the release timing for the Chinese region will differ from that of other versions. 我们原本希望 1.4.5 版本能够在所有平台、所有地区同步上线，目前 PC、主机和大部分地区的移动端已经顺利完成更新；但由于一些客观原因，中国移动端版本需要延后一段时间发布更新。 这是由多方面因素共同导致的。首先中国移动版基于官方服务器提供在线功能，因此在收到完整的1.4.5版本内容代码后，需要进行额外的服务器迁移工作，随后对新内容进行正式审核。 其次考虑到 1.4.5 版本的完成与发布时间临近中国春节假期，且在完成移植和本地化审核之后，我们仍希望预留一个必要的内部测试阶段——这对于保证游戏体验的完善至关重要。 综上Re-Logic、505 Games 与XD三方一致认为，投入时间确保版本质量，远比仓促推出未完善的更新更有意义。经与合作团队共同商讨，我们决定中国区版本的发布时间将与其他地区版本有所差异。 These things can happen when you have so many moving parts. We are working with XD to try and improve the process in the future so that things are truly aligned from now on. We expanded upon secret world seeds - something that we feel greatly expands the replayability/freshness of the game - while also making them more accessible than ever before. We also had a focus on improving things like atmosphere on top of our continual polish/quality of life/balance efforts - which is getting harder and harder as Terraria gets bigger! Oh, and you might encounter some new boulders... or existing boulders in new ways. Don't say we didn't warn you! With what is now over 6000 items in the game, it goes without saying that taking a hard look at managing such an expansive crafting experience was needed. Something that makes the potentially-overwhelming feel managable, while also feeling consistent and keeping some familiar functionality. With that in mind, we have introduced a new crafting interface that should feel a lot like how "Research and Duplication" works in Journey Mode. Both the Guide crafting recipe interface as well as crafting station interfaces are now organized by tabular functions (e.g. Weapons, Furniture, etc.) as well as being fully searchable so that you can quickly find what you need to craft any particular item. This new crafting interface replaces the old "grid" view - for those that prefer the old ways, the list view for crafting is still available by clicking the crafting icon again, as it has been in the past. We really think the new interface accomplishes our goals set out above, and we cannot wait to hear what you think! <img src="https://clan.fastly.steamstatic.com/images/3949769/7233ef6ffc59615b6a5aecd2d2dd6c86ed935c0e.png" /> <img src="https://clan.fastly.steamstatic.com/images/3949769/abce16fb3be12e27bbbc2c1c147c9283c2bec783.png" /> Oh, and while we were at it, we made some improvements to the way that crafting from chests works - you can now automatically use materials from nearby chests to craft items. No need to put them in your inventory first - or even open any chests first! With some proper base building, this should put all of your materials at your fingertips automatically. If that gets overwhelming, just toggle it off in the crafting menu. Coupled with the powerful new crafting interface, crafting in Terraria has never been better! <img src="https://clan.fastly.steamstatic.com/images/3949769/0fafbfc560bf0a25fbfca5b645c7c5e3f66ac51b.png" /> <div class="bb_h3">INVENTORY MANAGEMENT IMPROVEMENTS</div> Much like sandworms, most people don't really care to spend tons of time fiddling with their inventory when they would rather be getting back to the Digging, Fighting, and Building. Streamlining Inventory Management is a constant focus area for our team with each Terraria update. With 1.4.5, you are getting a couple of tweaks to help keep the clutter down and allow you to spend more time on the good stuff... <img src="https://clan.fastly.steamstatic.com/images/3949769/5d18226ece56962160eb886a30fb765537950c16.png" /> The new Banner Menu allows players to claim and use their banners at their convenience. No more having to tote them around or stuff them in a chest somewhere. You will still need to earn them however... <img src="https://clan.fastly.steamstatic.com/images/3949769/fa47378b6179b5ab3bc7b1f56fa6af079c31f0d2.png" /> All identical items are now fully stackable! Yes, that includes items with the same prefix/suffix combos! <img src="https://clan.fastly.steamstatic.com/images/3949769/0fafbfc560bf0a25fbfca5b645c7c5e3f66ac51b.png" /> <div class="bb_h3">I LIKE TO WATCH - NEW SPECTATOR FEATURE</div> <div class="sharedFilePreviewYouTubeVideo sizeFull"><img class="sharedFilePreviewYouTubeVideo sizeFull" src="https://steamcommunity.com/public/shared/images/responsive/youtube_16x9_placeholder.gif" /></div> In the past, when a player is slain while on a multiplayer server, they would have to sit there and watch the respawn countdown. While that is certainly riveting, we find the new Spectate feature to be vastly superior. This allows any players waiting on a respawn to toggle between the other players on the server - see what they see! How is that big boss fight going? Are they stealing your coins that you dropped when you died? Now you will know! <img src="https://clan.fastly.steamstatic.com/images/3949769/0fafbfc560bf0a25fbfca5b645c7c5e3f66ac51b.png" /> <div class="bb_h3">BE THE LANDLORD YOU DREAM OF - IMPROVEMENTS TO HOUSING MANAGEMENT</div> <img src="https://clan.fastly.steamstatic.com/images/3949769/56f39d0f9791f2f6602b62c2e880e4327bb97fab.png" /> Villagers no longer require a valid room/home in order to spawn in your world. This should make them more accessible to players and take some of the pressure off of making "Terrarian's First Cubicle Tower" on each playthrough. Villagers without a home/room will retreat to safety, and thus will be unavailable to players during the nighttime hours. <img src="https://clan.fastly.steamstatic.com/images/3949769/e0d77de91136f6c6671b5d6a869dfacd252f6fcc.png" /> The Housing Query feature has had a makeover as well, and now provides a visual indictation of what is being scanned as well as icons indicating where the necessary valid elements for Villager housing are located. Either people do not know that they exist (unless you follow our news releases carefully, find out via word of mouth or happen across them on the wiki, how would you know the fun world seeds are even there?), the entering of codes is a pain, or you are somewhat limited in what is possible. For Terraria 1.4.5, we wanted to address this in a substantial way... <div class="bb_h3">NEW WORLD SEED MENU</div> <img src="https://clan.fastly.steamstatic.com/images/3949769/9c23cab5b25abbdd6185d3210ad0950b612c2d7c.png" /> Accessible by clicking the little seed icon next to World Seed during setup for generating a new world, the new World Seed Menu displays all of the main special seed world types that are available. Simply choose what you want, click apply, and off you go! But wait, there's more! You can also create custom special seed combinations. Ever wondered what a Remix + Not the Bees! world would be like? How will you survive and thrive when building quite literally includes building the world itself? All we will say is that some fun effects can be unlocked via specific combinations of special seeds from the World Seed Menu or - as before - secret code words. What sorts of effects or seeds might you unlock? How about becoming a vampire? <img src="https://clan.fastly.steamstatic.com/images/3949769/2a27e861e2b3fc51e1c787f258827f02dd09a1d2.gif" /> Vampires would be wise to avoid the sun at all costs! Maybe you have wondered what Terraria would be like if you and your friends would start in different positions on the map? Well, wonder no more! The new "royale with cheese" seed will create a different spawn position for every team; simply join the world, choose your team and you will be teleported to your very own starting territory! When we playtested this seed internally, we discovered this creates all sort of interesting dynamics: where do the villagers end up living? Who gets which Pylons? Is it morally acceptable to sneak into another team's base and steal all their stuff? Whether you want to play cooperatively, capture-the-gem, or a good old Hardcore PvP team deathmatch, this seed is sure to shake up your experience! Perhaps you've one day found yourself in a particularly festive and jingly mood, only to look at your calendar and discover it's the middle of summer? Well, the time of changing your system clock is over: the new "jingle all the way" seed will ensure Christmas season in your world all day, every day! Are you more of a Halloween person? No fear! Well, lots of fear, actually, because the "hocus pocus" seed will permanently spookify your world, no matter the time of year! Another seed that is splashing down in this update might make you want to bring a towel or an umbrella, because the forecast is rain. Lots and lots of rain. Don't bother waiting until the rain lets up to go outside, because it's not going to. But hey, at least the fish seem to like it! Or have you ever looked at your world and thought to yourself "Hm, what this needs is more holes!"? Well, for those of you wishing to explore a world of jagged peaks and craggy rocks, we added another seed to do just that! If all this sounds rather tame to you, not to worry! We have a couple that are quite a bit more impactful. For example, if you ever thought that the Dungeon is too small, there are too few of them, and you don't spend a lot of time there, then good news! We have a seed that solves all three of those problems! Can you find the secret phrase that unlocks it? Like the special seeds, these secret seeds can be combined, and specific combinations have special interactions! The good folks at Make-A-Wish® New Jersey reached out to our team and the rest is history. As a part of the launch day festivities, Frank asked if he could say a few words in the launch post... and so without further ado, we turn the floor over to Frank! "Hey everyone, I just wanted to add my own input to this post because of the emotional weight it carries for me. Yes I had leukemia, that doesn't define me. Yes I have permanent neurological issues, that doesn't define me. I'm looking forward instead of living in the past. We doubt it will be perfect, but we do hope it yields a better experience for everyone. We also had a couple of tunes that didn't make the boss-tier cut, but we loved so much that we could not just let them go.
