After thorough investigation, we discovered the root cause of a server bottleneck. Our cloud infrastructure works by having multiple game servers running on each AWS machine. In some cases, the CPUs for these machines were hitting 100% usage and resulted in players experiencing performance drops and slowmo servers. Our team implemented numerous server performance optimizations and, as a result, we have seen a substantial drop in instances of matches with these issues. We are happy to report: players are experiencing more stable matches! The above graph displays CPU usage for Ranked servers (the mode where we saw the most instances of slomo) - you can clearly see a drop with the 28.0 launch on 2/10 10:00 PT.
